Ch-ch-ch-changes!

Though the fat lady has yet to sing (more on this in a moment), we are feeling highly optimistic about a possible move to Connecticut. The job offer was made in person today (and the woo-ing was ample and wonderful!), the inevitable salary negotiations are underway, and Matt and I are both feeling as though this move has tremendous potential for our family. The only significant moment of pause for me? Logging onto the CT Registry of Motor Vehicles webpage, fearing this might be one of those states....the states that require you to list your weight on your license. I have always vowed not to live in one of those. Though I don't have a final answer on the question, and I can't imagine I would share with the university president that this was my reason for withdrawing, the signs are good that this fat lady will not need to sing! Hooray!

We're in one of "those" states, but it's such a joke. They never bother looking at it, because it's so obsolete. They tell you to list your weight when you're 16 years old, then they never go back and change it or require you to change it. Most people don't weigh the same at age 30 or 40 as they did at 16!! They need to get rid of the requirement - it's useless and pointless anyway.

If you DO have to list a weight, just put an arbitrary number - they don't question it and no one ever looks at it again. Definitely not worth turning down a great job offer. :-)

First of all, congrats on the possible move.
Second of all, LIE ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT. What do they care?

Thirdly, about your questions on my site about moving--when we were possible moving to MA, we were STUNNED by the real estate. STUNNED as in, "OMG, our house here in Cincinnati would sell for a cool Million+, but we can't bring it with us!" My husband turned down the two offers he got from there because we could never afford to live there.

I don't know what part of CT you are possibly moving to, but the real estate seemed so much more reasonable--unless it's Westchester Co--then you might have a problem.

i am so proud of you. both you and Matt have left a mark on Wheaton College and its students and staff, and now you prepare for new adventures. You've come a long way from wearing clothes bought at the Vineyard Thrift store. Mom is beaming down upon you all. what a summer this will be, celebrating Lucas and Kyra's birthdays, and the move. You are all in my prayers..

Hooray Hooray!! We've been gone for a few days and I hadn't heard the news. I am SO happy for you -- can't wait to hear more!! Ah, moving ... funny how we (might) be going through this at the same time. My big thing: how to transition Aidan through it all. I'd be interested in your approach with Kyra ...

hahahaha ... When you mentioned CT being one of "those" states, I thought you meant you'd have to take the driver's test all over again! That would be my nightmare! haha -- see, a meaningless number regarding weight vs. taking that hideous test again ... just can't compare! No, seriously, I'm not belittling your feelings about this -- you and I have been down this road together, that's for sure. Oh, HOORAY!!!
